Game Platform Review Comments
UFO 50 PC Good Tons of mini-games with hard but fair difficulty.
Ultima Apple II Good Ultima back when it was a much simpler game, but still undeniably worth a play through.
Ultima II: Revenge of the Enchantress Apple II Good The installment that begins Ultima's grand ideas and epic adventures without bogging people down into forced story.
Ultima III: Exodus Commodore 64 Great The first truly great Ultima game with a great "story" told organically and not through boring cutscenes.
Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar Commodore 64 Great An almost Zen experience as the game isn't about beating some world-ending evil, but finding your path to enlightenment.
Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny Commodore 64 Great A game that explores good vs. evil and the futility of creating laws from virtues without beating you over the head with a story.
Ultima VI: The False Prophet Commodore 64 Good A small step back, this game feels smaller and less focused and a lot more straightforward with its ideas than previous games.
Ultima VII: The Black Gate DOS Meh Unpopular opinion, I know, but Black Gate seemed to push this "mysterious evil" angle too far and made exploration a chore along with adding a bit too much forced non-interactive story.
Ultima VIII: Pagan DOS Bad Taking Ultima out of Britannia was a bold idea, but the execution and setting weren't interesting enough for it to work. Has many of the same issues as VII and just isn't a worthy Ultima sequel.
Ultima IX: Ascension PC Bad Taking Ultima to 3d was basically a bad idea. Not only does this up the forced story to a ridiculous degree, the controls and gameplay are annoying and do not fit Ultima.
Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss DOS Good A groundbreaking game that gives you a FPS-like dungeon crawl adventure with all the Ultima charm.
Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds DOS Good An incredible FPS-like dungeon crawl with tons of places and interactions adding so much more to the Ultima Underworld formula.
Ultima Online PC Meh Back before the Third Dawn expansion, this was a very good MMORPG with tons of options and true role playing. It went downhill afterwards and really stopped being nearly as good.
Ultima: Runes of Virtue Gameboy Meh A cool little idea to bring Ultima to the Gameboy with simplified action/puzzle quests, the execution is unfortunately not solid enough to make it a really good game.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Arcade Meh Lame fatalities, bad characters, and simplified (even from the already simple MK) gameplay drags this one down.
Undertale PC Bad It's a JRPG-like boring storygame with bullet hell "combat" and poor "find the right option every time for best ending" trash.
Unpacking PC Bad Unpacking everything from boxes and organizing them everywhere is not my idea of fun, thanks, game.
Unreal / Unreal Gold PC Good Return to Na Pali is kind of meh, but packaged together with the original like it always is now, you have to proclaim the entire thing Good
Unreal II: The Awakening PC Bad Crashes outright on many systems and is a poorly thought out rehash of the original when it does work.
Unreal Tournament PC Good The best of the Unreal games with regard to weapons, maps, and gameplay. It's unfortunately a bit too easy to score cheap kills, though.
Unreal Tournament 2004 PC Good A pretty good update of the vastly superior original UT with more modes, interesting weapons, and fun default maps. Just not quite at the same level quality-wise especially with the maps.
Unreal Tournament 3 PC Bad A very poor re-imagining of Unreal Tournament with bad, well, everything.
Vampire Survivers PC Good A very simple game with very simple controls but has a huge amount of content and challenge with some inclusions from other games to make it even better.
Virtua Fighter Arcade Good This is how you do a 3d engine fighting game, CAPCOM. Well done even for a low-poly intro to the series.
Virtua Fighter 2 Arcade Good Great evolution of a fantastic 3d engine fighting game with great characters, movesets, and arenas.
VVVVVV PC Good Gravity flip mechanic is fun and the gameplay is tight enough for it to not be like the rest of the retro-style modern games that forgot how to do gameplay.
Warcraft: Orcs and Humans DOS Good Back when Warcraft wasn't an MMO and RTS wasn't a played out, overdone, seen it all game genre that needed to die, this was actually a fun game.
Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness DOS Good Barely good because the RTS genre was already on the verge of becoming the Same Old Game Different Setting genre, but still, Warcraft II had enough added to make it fun.
We ❤️ Katamari Playstation 2 Good Roll up everything, enjoy the crazy, trippy music and visuals. Good gameplay, good game. A rare decent PS2 game. But thanks a lot for forcing me to use a freaking emoji to make the name of this game.
Wipeout XL Playstation Good A fun futuristic racing game with great music. Controls can be a bit mushy at times but doesn’t really bring this one down.
Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings PC Bad Just terrible controls and gameplay and tons of damn story. Why bother? How did this become popular? Read the books and play a real RPG, not this mess.
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord Apple II Good Hey, “JRPG” fans: this is how it’s done. Not tons of story and dialog and linear trash. Good luck surviving the dungeon.
Wolfenstein 3D DOS Good A very good proto-FPS that would influence gaming for years to come. Remember when nazis were bad? Wolf3d does.
Wolfenstein 3D: Spear of Destiny DOS Good Even more of the same with more fun from Wolf3d. This is good.
Wonderful End of the World, The PC Good A reimagined Katamari Damacy for PC with nice environments and fun gameplay. A bit too short, though.
World of Goo PC Meh While it seems like a good game at the beginning, the farther you get into the game, the more you realize how absolutely wonky and frustrating its "physics gameplay" is.
World of Warcraft PC Bad If you can play the original or just the first expansion, this is a good MMO. It very quickly devolved into Meh status with the next expansion and into just laughably Bad thereafter thanks to added pointless story, oversimplification of game mechanics, and so on.
XCOM: UFO Defense DOS Bad A very frustrating game with poor controls and gameplay.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown PC Bad An update of the original XCom that still has frustratingly slow and dull gameplay, along with laughable hit statistics that can promise you a 99% chance to hit and you will still miss.
XMen Vs. Street Fighter Arcade Good A solid fighting engine bringing together two worlds that works incredibly well.
Xevious Arcade Good Satisfying vertical shooter with bomb and forward fire controls against a ton of enemies, with secrets and hidden elements abound.
You Have To Win The Game PC Good Well, given that I had to win the game, I'm glad I did. And it was a fun time with a nice action/adventure game with solid controls and gameplay.
You Suck At Parking PC Bad This game sucks at controls, gameplay, and basically everything else.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link NES Good Very different and not quite as good as the original, this is still a fun romp that challenges you and is an absolute fun time.
Ziggurat PC Meh While pretty fun and challenging with solid gameplay, this game doesn't have a lot of variety and gets old too fast with its simplified randomly generated levels.
Zookeeper Arcade Good Build a wall around the animals to keep them in, jump up to save your girl, and then win an extra life by being forced to precision jump over animals until you get it? Wow. Very rough at times but still very fun.
Zork (series) Commodore 64 Good Not really games, more like "interactive fiction", as Infocom called them. It is still an interesting series based on moving through dungeons and solving puzzles along the way.
