Game Platform Review Comments
Daikatana PC Good People gave up on this game too early or was too harsh on it. I found it very fun -- maybe not best ever, but good.
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic PC Good KICKING SIMULATOR. What incredibly great gameplay. Dragged down a bit by please stop with the story...
Darkest Dungeon PC Good Gather your party and keep them sane through a dungeon crawl. Tons of nice strategy make this game a fun time though it can get a bit old too fast.
Darksiders PC Meh Third person combat with some frustrating control elements and typical artificial difficulty sections.
Daytona USA Arcade Good Absolutely fun driving game with great controls.
Dead Space PC Meh Too much story, odd viewing angle and wonky controls makes the game difficult to play and even watch at times for me (motion sickness).
DEATH STRANDING PC Bad Literally a walking simulator. Boring as anything with waaaaayyyyyyy too much story.
Defender Arcade Good Absolutely need the original control setup for this one. Space shooter where you're caught between caution and saving humans.
Defense Grid: The Awakening PC Meh Tower defense has never been my thing, but this at least is fun for a short while before you realize it's all the same boring tripe and quit the game forever.
Democracy 3 PC Good Brought peace, prosperity, and happiness to my country. Assassinated by religious extremists for daring to not put religion on the highest pedestal. Would definitely recommend.
Descent DOS Good Incredible early six degrees of freedom shooter with addicting gameplay.
Descent II DOS Good Gives you much more of what you got from the original with more challenging gameplay.
Descent 3 PC Bad They just didn't even try with this one. Boring, soulless, poor gameplay.
Destiny 2 PC Bad A who cares, pointless, soulless slog of a shooter with random encounters and uninteresting goals. Don't see the appeal.
Deus Ex PC Meh The idea of being able to achieve your goal in multiple ways is appealing but the execution of the game is very flawed with some poor game design choices and way too much story.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution PC Bad Just a laughable pile of trash where you have no option but to VERY SLOWLY tiptoe your way through everything because the game thinks you need to be stealthy at all times for some reason.
Diablo PC Good Endless clicker with satisfying gameplay and tons of loot.
Diablo II PC Good Even more of the good stuff from Diablo. Addicting.
Dig Dug Arcade Good An incredibly satisfying attack mechanic while digging through the dirt and dropping rocks which can also be satisfying if your enemies are lined up under it.
DLC Quest PC Good An inventive platformer that makes fun of the whole game DLC craze in a very novel and fun way with good gameplay to boot.
Donkey Kong Arcade Good Hello, Mario! Run and jump your way over obstacles to get to the top and save not-Princess-Peach from the clutches of a large ape. Earns its classic status.
Donkey Kong Gameboy Good Starts as a port of the original DK but turns into a very clever and fun puzzle/platformer game with tons of imaginative and well-designed levels.
Donkey Kong 3 Arcade Meh You remember Stanley, right? Poor Stanley never got Mario's fame as he fights the Kong with... um... bug spray? A really weak spin on the classic game with still some fun to be had.
Donkey Kong Country (series) Super Nintendo Bad Frustrating, loose, imprecise controls and laughable gameplay that is a direct result of putting graphics first probably makes this one of the first big Style Over Substance games. Bad.
Donkey Kong Jr. Arcade Good The tables have turned as Junior climbs and winds his way up to save his father from the clutches of Mario (and Luigi, it seems). A very good twist on the classic game.
Doom / Ultimate Doom DOS Great The best. Absolutely flawless from beginning to end. Well-designed, executed, everything.
DOOM (2016) PC Bad Monster pinatas, trap rooms, bad weapons, jumping puzzles, STORY? This isn't Doom. Stop calling it Doom.
DOOM 3 / Resurrection of Evil PC Bad This isn't Doom. It's Resident Evil: Mars. Slow gameplay, weak weapons, too much story. Boring.
DOOM 64 Nintendo 64 Meh It'd be good if it had decent controls...
DOOM 64 PC Good which the PC version has, turning a game with frustrating controls and gameplay because of a laughably bad controller into a legitimate Doom experience.
DOOM II: Hell on Earth DOS Great Maybe not as good as the original Doom, but the difference in quality and gameplay is minimal. Mostly because of a few levels with a dip in quality.
DOOM: Custom Playstation Edition Playstation Good Missing quite a bit from the original, has Doom II enemies in the Doom section of the game for some reason, has weird sound effects, and boring ambient music. Still pretty good even with a gamepad.
DOTA 2 PC Awful This game should be illegal to play and wiped completely from existence. It takes the worst qualities from the genres that influenced it and frames it as a game for hardcore competitive gamers who cannot stand playing the game casually.
Dragon Age: Origins PC Bad Yet another JRPG wannabe boring, story-heavy "RPG" that has lost its way from the good CRPGs of old.
Dragon Ball FighterZ PC Meh Mediocre fighting game with one-dimensional, dial-a-combo controls. Looks fantastic, though.
Dragon's Lair Arcade Meh One of the original quick time event games, it still can't be excused for just being a barely interactive movie.
Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp Arcade Meh The sequel to Dragon's Quick Time Events, it at least adds a treasure hunt to the game to keep you playing.
Duke Nukem 3D DOS Good Control and gameplay aren't up to Doom or Quake's high bar, but, really, what is? Still a good game.
Duke Nukem Forever PC Bad Game should have actually taken Forever to come out instead of almost forever, so we could be spared this garbage.
Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom / Shadow Over Mystara Arcade Good Fantastic D&D-themed beat em up quarter suckers. Very interesting with aa ton of fun mechanics, bosses, and worlds.
DUSK PC Meh Looks and plays like one of those cheap bad Quake clones in the 90s. Still slightly enjoyable but gameplay and design has major issues.
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, The PC Great The perfect Elder Scrolls game where combat is actually like an RPG instead of an FPS. Does everything else better as well with so many deep and fun options and abilities.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The PC Good Slightly problematic with FPS combat instead of actual randomized/stat based RPG combat. Still very fun and engaging.
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The PC Good A problematic Elder Scrolls with the same FPS combat dragging it down and some strange balance issues. Still very good, though.
Electronic Super Joy (series) PC Bad A frustrating platformer with horrible controls and gameplay.
End is Nigh, The PC Meh Frustrating platformer that is designed to test your patience. It's at least a little more fair and has better controls than most other games of its ilk, though.
Enter the Gungeon PC Good A bullet hell action/roguelite that actually works to mitigate the bullet hell and make it somewhat fair. Still can be horribly unfair in places.
Escape Goat PC Meh It's fun... to a point where every level is a frustrating, sloppy mess of back and forth and it becomes incredibly tedious and not worth doing.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 / American Truck Simulator PC Meh Drive your truck around and... yep, that's it. It gets old but at times it can be a very Zen experience just rolling down the road watching the world go by.
Everquest PC Good One of the innovators of the MMO genre and still incredibly engaging and fun to play to this very day if you can deal with the dated interface.
Everquest II PC Bad Tries so hard to be Everquest but really has nothing fun or innovative about it and feels like a waste of time to play.
Eye of the Beholder (series) DOS Great A real RPG/dungeon crawler with tons of secrets, great combat, fun puzzles, and tons of content.
F.E.A.R. PC Good While it's a story-heavy FPS game, this one stays light on the story and really innovates with well done combat that enhances the game.
Faerie Solitaire / Remastered PC Meh A fancy version of the card game Golf with a ton of mobile game trappings and tedious gameplay.
Fall Guys PC Bad Poor controls and frustrating gameplay for a party-style gimmick game isn't a good formula.
Fallout 3 PC Meh Tons of unfair difficulty spikes and wonky combat make what should be a fun game into a major slog. The idea and the environment are interesting but running into a random basically no-win situation at random is not acceptable.
Fallout 4 PC Meh Basically the same issues and high points as Fallout 3, this one is way too deep into its story especially at the beginning to have much interest in.
Fallout: New Vegas PC Meh Better with the story and random encounters than the other games, it still catches you in some unfair situations and has some awkward gameplay to bring it down all the same.
FEZ PC Bad Starts out interesting and fun enough but quickly devolves into a pretentious, confusing mess that isn't worth playing.
Final DOOM DOS Great Two 30+ level expansion packs for Doom II that surpass Doom II's level design by a huge margin and ramp up the difficulty. Legendary.
Fortnite PC Bad A battle royale game that lacks any sort of fairness or fun because of its oversimplification and reliance on gimmicks with the addition of new modes that are far inferior to better games like them.
Freespace 2 PC Good A bit too much story going on, but is an incredible, immersive space sim with great scenarios and excellent combat mechanics.
Frogger Arcade Good Getting a frog across a road and a river sounds easy, right? Just wait a few levels. Addictive and very well done.
FTL: Faster Than Light PC Meh There's a lot to like here with tons of resource management and strategy, but the game's random element is far too brutal and unavoidable to overcome at times, which is unfair.
Futurama Playstation 2 Bad Should have been an episode. Clunky, awful, repetitive gameplay makes this one not worth trying. Watch the "episode" version from one of the Futurama DVDs.
Galaga Arcade Great No bullet hell, a simple ship upgrade that comes with a drawback, and challenging gameplay. Shooter perfection.
Galaxian Arcade Good A fairly simple yet effective shooter that is worth the play time and would eventually bring us the perfection of Galaga.
Garry's Mod PC Bad The idea is interesting but its execution is incredibly flawed and frustrating.
Gauntlet Arcade Good Top down dungeon crawler with hordes of enemies? Yes, please!
Gauntlet II Arcade Good Take everything good about Gauntlet, add MORE OF EVERYTHING. This is good.
Get Medieval PC Good A semi-obscure "Gauntlet" clone for PC, memorable mostly for the warrior character with his Arnold Schwarzenegger-like quotes (it's a good game otherwise, still).
Great Giana Sisters, The Commodore 64 Meh A Super Mario Bros. clone on early home computers, it falls just short of the smooth and quality gameplay of Nintendo's big game while still being somewhat enjoyable.
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams PC Bad A platformer spun off from a Commodore 64 Mario Bros. clone with a poorly implemented and frustrating gimmick further hindered by poor controls.
Goat Simulator PC Good Can get old after a while and there's far too much DLC for basically "new places for goat", but there's so much hilarity here it's worth it.
God of War Playstation 2 Bad Bad controls, bad gameplay, quick time event trash, and an all around boring game.
God of War: Chains of Olympus PSP Bad Awkward controls and repetitive, doesn't give you time for anything quick time event trash make for a bad game.
Gone Home PC Bad Pointless walking simulator that goes nowhere and bores you with a story that should have been a movie or TV special.
Gorf Arcade Good A fun, good evolution of Space Invaders with several different stages. HA HA HA SPACE CADET
Gran Turismo (Series) Playstation Meh While I can see the appeal for car enthusiasts, the rest of us have zero interest in maintaining pinpoint accuracy around hairpin turns or obsessively collecting and tweaking tons of cars like some car Pokemon game.
Grand Theft Auto Playstation Bad Proto-Grand Theft Auto that just doesn't work in 2d. I know, strange concept, but GTA really is meant to be in 3d. Very bad controls and gameplay here.
Grand Theft Auto III PC Meh While this is how GTA absolutely should be, the first 3d game in the series is dragged down by some bad driving controls, repetitive music, and mission briefings that, if skipped, leave you wondering what to do because the game won't give you a summary afterwards many times.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City PC Good The only good GTA game. Car controls are excellent, the world is small enough to not get lost in (and basically not have it be a reason to stretch out certain missions because you have to drive farther), excellent music, and a fun premise... that you can just skip most of the time.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas PC Meh Car controls are back to being hideous this time around, along with a laughably boring story too close to real life gang wars to lose yourself in a fantasy, unlike VC. The map is also comically huge, making certain missions over-long and boring just because you have to drive forever to get somewhere.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories PSP Bad Nice to be back in Vice City but the poor PSP controls and really boring characters and plot (to the extent that I pay attention to, so very little) drag it down.
Guild Wars PC Good Sort of difficult to get started but a very wide world full of fun quests and sights to enjoy. Not as good as the sequel but worth a play.
Guild Wars 2 PC Good Discoverable and varied quest objectives that all count toward the area quest and an excellent concentration on exploration make this one of the better MMOs available, if a bit repetitive.
Guitar Hero 2 Playstation 2 Good Follow the colored dots with your plastic guitar and rock on. Solid mechanics but a bit outdated at this point feature-wise.
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Wii Meh Gameplay isn't as solid as GH2 regarding accuracy and skill, but still has a lot of fun in it.
Gunfire Reborn PC Meh Roguelight shooter with some iffy game mechanics and laughable system requirements to run a game that looks very dated on anything but a super system well. Thanks, Unity. You're trash.
Gunstar Heroes Genesis Good Shooter/platfomer nearly perfected with the right amount of challenge and solid controls.
Gyruss Arcade Good It's essentially Galaga wrapped around the screen but still a lot of fun. Sadly the ship upgrade system isn't as good as Galaga's.
